Writing in Plain Language

Writing in Plain Language

Plain language helps develop shared understanding (INVOLVE Standard)

Visit the Plain English website for services and tools to help you write for a lay audience.

Writing in plain language is just one aspect of successful communication. You also need to be aware some patients will need information in easy read or large print, or in different languages.

NHS England requires all organisations that provide NHS care and/or publicly-funded adult social care to follow the Accessible Information Standard. It contains useful tips for informing and communicating with patients, service users, carers and parents with a disability, impairment or sensory loss.
